I am actually unfamiliar with GIMP, but from what I hear, it's a simpler version of Photoshop.

There's two main ways to incorporate textures into work, and unofficially I call them: overlaying and background.

For overlaying, you simply copy/paste a texture on your work, move it around how you please, and choose a layer property setting that works best. For instance, if the texture is mostly black with white or any lighter color designs, the best layer properties usually consist of something like 'screen' or 'lighten' - but I'm not sure if GIMP has those settings. If the texture is has a lighter background, usually something like 'darken', 'multiply', 'color burn', or 'soft light' works best.

For using the textures as a background, it involves simply cutting out any part of your image that you don't wish to be featured in your work and using the texture behind your main subject. This can also be achieved by overlaying textures on top of your image and erasing the parts that conflict with the subject of your artwork.

I hope this helps!
it did thank you so much!

Please, could you delete this deviation?
We are several graphic designers here and we are tired of seeing numerous "texture sets" using our own art without even people asking if they can use it. Our work is copyrighted and wherever you find it, you can't use it without proper permission. Next time I come here, if this deviation is still on, I will report it to deviantart and to my lawyer. If I see them on your livejournal, I will do the same.
How disrespectful.

"Can I use things created by other people in my submissions?

You are allowed to use any valid stock resources providing that you obey the terms and conditions set by the stock provider.

For works which are not valid stock resources you must first obtain a license or other proper permission for use. Information on permissions and providing them is detailed elsewhere in the FAQ

You may also use materials governed by a Creative Commons license providing that you obey the terms of the licensing.

Failure to obey all of the required Terms and Conditions or License requirements attached to the stock may result in the removal of your submission.

Please be aware that not all websites are considered legitimate stock imagery resources. Only the legal owner of the imagery has the ability to offer the work as a stock resource- if the 'stock' website includes images taken from print or film, or includes photographs featuring celebrities or supermodels then you may rest assured that it is not a valid resources site. Likewise "Render" websites are not valid stock sources as they offer copyrighted materials which have been cut apart and which are offered by people without the legal right to do so.

Also be aware that the lack of obvious copyright information does not imply that the imagery is free for use. Always assume that everything you see is copyright protected by default.”
These images are a mixture of my own and some found at fffound.com - which I state in the post that I posted them on a blogging site.
